Not Just A Blind Date... A Crazy Blind Date

Well, there is another "dating" site out there called CrazyBlindDate. It launched today in Boston, NYC and San Fran. The idea behind "CrazyBlindDate" is to bring the scheme of blind dating to the web. Unlike most online dating sites, you won't b able to see them in person until the date- although you can try your best at determining how attractive they are in the blurred portrait CrazyBlindDate allows you to upload. Anyways, you sign up, answer some personal questions (age, height, body type, what type of date you’re looking for, etc.), and indicate the times and neighborhoods you are available to go on a quick date, even if its on very short notice -yada, yada, yada. The site will then use its "algorithms" to match you up with someone in your area who is available during one of your time slots. Both single and double date arrangements can be made, and you can bring a friend, too, if you’re overly nervous about meeting strangers on your own.

This business strategy is a gamble - it has yet to be seen whether many singles will be comfortable meeting up total strangers before knowing any more than their basic vital stats. CEO Sam Yagan admits that CrazyBlindDate could either become a runaway success or a total dud depending on how adventurous people turn out to be. Are you adventurous?

Dating Events... Darwinian Model?

Well, to build on Viki's "chub finders", this article talks about all these "new" businesses that are cropping up to match people together. My favorite quote from one of the companies that introduce rich dudes to hot girls is, "I think through time, hot women and rich men have proven that they are attracted to each other," says Jeremy Abelson -- and yes, he's totally serious. (WHAT STRAIGHT GUY ISN'T ATTRACTED TO A HOT GIRL? Stupid comment). A bonus for us- the women who decided whether the girls were hot enough were Janis Spindel, the woman Bowman blogged about!

To test his theory, Abelson, 27, organized the first-ever Natural Selection Speed Date: Rich Guys & Hot Girls event, which took place February 7, in New York City.

"I thought this was a liberation for people. Like, you could stop holding it in and say, 'Okay, finally somebody's come out and said it,'" he says.

The name of the event was no joke. Men had to make over $200,000 annually if they were under 25 years old; 26- to 29-year-olds had to make $300,000; men 30 and up had to gross half a million.
