Best Jobs In America

http://www.focus.com/images/view/7362/
It’s interesting to see which professions do top the list: systems engineer, physician assistant, college professor, and nurse practitioner. I don't know if I would have thought that... so paper store or clothing boutique owner didn't make the cut?
The Jetson Age Is Here
It is 2010, and you can finally buy your own jetpack. For a mere $86,000, if you put 10% down now and are willing to wait 12 months -- consider it yours. We can all whine, complain about the price, but admit it... if you had the loot, you would consider it - come one now-- it's a JETPACK!The jetpack itself is 5 feet tall and 5.5 feet wide (so way bigger than me...) and made of a carbon fiber composite with a pinch of Kevlar for the rotor. It uses regular gasoline and will travel a grand distance of 31.5 miles at a maximum speed of 63 mph, which should comfortably take you from home to office (and back) in a jiffy, and with a lot of noise.
You'll still need to pass a training program before taking receipt of the jetpack, so you don't randomly crash into walls or dive into a gas station. Should such an unfortunate eventuality occur, a ballistic parachute system will (hopefully) lift you away from danger.

Elephant Stuck In Drain Hole

Rescuers worked for 3 hours to get this little baby elephant named Stinky out of a drain hole. If you look closely, it looks like Stinky is crying! I don't think I've ever wanted to hug something so badly in my entire life...and yet it could sit on me and I would be crushed. Interesting how things like that work out...

The Occassional Wife

Ever since Judy Syfers wrote "Why I Want a Wife" in 1971, people have been using the word "wife" to refer to non-spouses who perform traditional "wifely" chores, like cleaning. The latest culprit: a service called The Occasional Wife.
Occasional Wife founder Kay Morrison writes, "The Occasional Wife is a concept born in my kitchen [sounds messy] during a morning discussion with my husband. It was one of those days when neither our schedules nor our two young children were cooperating. At that point we realized that this family, our family, needed a 'wife.'"
Sociological Images makes a great commentary... http://contexts.org/socimages/2009/06/23/wouldnt-a-wife-be-great/

This Is Just Hard To Believe- There Is Still Something Segregated??

The New York Times ran an incredibly frustrating, heartbreaking piece about a segregated prom in Georgia today, which included an audio slide show wherein students and parents voice their opinions on the segregation and "tradition."
The first student interviewed, a white student named Harley Boone, is quick to point out that the segregated prom isn't racist, in her opinion, it's just "what we know and what our parents have done for so many years." Harley insists that she eats with black students in the cafeteria and that she attends classes with black students, and that the prom is just not a big deal, comparatively. Her mother, Anita Williamson says "this community and this school system is fine the way it is..why change something that has worked, it's not broken?" Kera Nobles, a black student, disagrees, calling the segregation "hurtful," and noting that "I sit beside you at graduation but I can't go to prom with you for one night?"
The prom itself isn't a school sponsored function; the proms are private functions that are thrown by the students. The idea of "it's just the way it's always been" seems to be an overriding theme in why such a backwards tradition is allowed to continue; Terra Fountain, an 18-year-old white student, blames the parents for the continual separation: "Most of the students do want to have a prom together," she says, "But it's the white parents who say no. … They're like, if you're going with the black people, I'm not going to pay for it."
The segregated proms have also forced friends to take a second look at their relationships; many black students feel betrayed by their white friends who have neglected to stand up for them and insist upon an integrated prom. "My best friend is white," one girl tells the New York Times, "She's in there. She's real cool, but I don't understand. If they can be in there, why can't everybody else?" Says another: "You're 18 years old! You're old enough to smoke, drive, do whatever else you want to. Why aren't you able to step up and say, ‘I want to have my senior prom with the people I'm graduating with?'"
"The prom is the least of our problems," says Angel Howard, a black student, "We can't fix the prom until we fix the school. And then when the school comes together and no longer sees color, then the prom can come together and no longer see color."

Power Ranger On Death Row

“I basically took a sheet and tied it around my lower extremity … I tied it around and I went to cut it off,” he told ABC News. And his wife was down with this plan??? Strange.

Who Made This Decision?
ation of the "Top 100" American movies/DVDs as flat out classless- because the DVDs didn't work in European players. Again, no one looked into that? Whatever happened to a nice pin? A vase? A frame? I know, how about a J. Crew cardigan?

I Would Hate Working Here

Are they serious? Were the sick of elevators? Why else would this office have installed a GIANT slide to shoot employees from the third floor down to the first in "just seven seconds?" I guess this is good for fire drills... what do you do with files? Just throw them down the shoot to and then just pick up all the pieces on the floor later?Monday, February 16, 2009
Michael Jackson: Neverland Auction
I can't believe it's come to this. A pop legend of our own time falls on such hard times that he has to sell off all his stuff. The World's Oldest (Perhaps Ugliest) Love Triangle Perhaps
Meet Dancho (on the right), 86, who was sent to the hospital after being attacked by Boris, 74, over the love of Pena, 75. Dancho, you cradle-robber."She may not have all her own teeth and she’s a bit hard of hearing, but temptress Pena Dobrava can still stir violent passions in men. It ended with Dancho Dimitov, 86, in hospital with head injuries after being whacked by jealous boyfriend Boris Stoykov, 74. The pair came to blows when Boris was tipped off by a neighbour that Dancho was trying to steal Pena, 75, from him.
He had even been seen clambering over her back garden fence to secretly chat her up."
Are you kidding me?

Bullet Points For What Happened To Our Economy/Financial Market Today
So... just in case you've been hiding under a rock, here are the basics.- That compromise bailout plan intended to save the economy? Yeah, it failed.
- The Dow proceeded to drop 778 points, the largest one-day loss in nearly 2 decades. Many people just kissed their asses and life savings goodbye.
- Republicans blame Nancy Pelosi for giving an offensive speech before the vote, which included partisan remarks like recognizing that Bush inherited surpluses and now the economy sucks.
- Citigroup just bought out Wachovia's banking sector, eliminating more competition.

Now That's Spirit, Stupid, But Spirited...
I was originally going to report that there was this new study showing that cheerleading is the most dangerous school sport for females, as two-thirds of all catastrophic injuries among high school and college girls have been from cheerleading accidents. BUT, I was really taken aback by this photo of a cheerleading continuing even with a brace around her neck... IS SHE SERIOUS?http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1833715,00.html?xid=newsletter-weekly

This Is Too Sad For Me
A gorilla at a zoo in the German city of Muenster is refusing to let go of her dead baby's body several days after it died of unknown causes. The gorilla at a German zoo has been carrying around her dead baby since he died last week.
Allwetter Zoo spokeswoman Ilona Zuehlke says the 3-month-old male baby died on Saturday but its 11-year-old mother continues to carry its body around. Zuehlke says such behavior is not uncommon to gorillas. Zuehlke says the mother "is mourning and must say goodbye." The mother gorilla is named Gana.

What Would You Do? Likely Not This...
This must come from my "non-survival" skills...as I freely tell everyone I know that if an alien spacecraft or Godzilla ran through downtown Miami, I would probably be unable to run and likely be squished or lasered. And if someone broke into my house? Probably take a back door and RUN!! Well, not Leda Smith.http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/19/ap/strange/main4362460.shtml?source=RSS&attr=_4362460
