Crack Pie

I have been hearing about this Crack Pie... If you live in NYC and haven't tried it yet, I guess you're fast becoming a minority as this simple but apparently addictive little baked good is taking over NYC. It's the new cupcake apparently.

Available at Momofuku Bakery and Milk Bar in Manhattan, its "humble" appearance and simple ingredients are deceiving as it carries a whopping price tag of $44 per pie. The pie has an oatmeal cookie crust base with a filling that includes egg yolks, sugar, butter and heavy cream.

This Takes It Too Far...

ALL of my friends are having babies... but, I admit that I'm still not totally hip with all of the trends. But honestly, please PLEASE don't tell me this isn't a new trend. What happened to the storks? Cigars?

This Is Definitely At My Next Dinner Party....

Mmmmmm! Serious Eats presents a recipe for “Rice Krispies Sushi” - made with the Krispies treat, marshmallows, Swedish Fish, and Fruit by the Foot (or Fruit Roll-Ups). I am drooling...and making this tomorrow (or right now).

Drool...Double Drool

I love Dean & Deluca and I love lobster rolls. So, you can only imagine how excited I was when I saw that Dean & Deluca is sending its customers Maine-caught lobster in one of two rolls this summer: light mayo, lemon and celery or mayo and tarragon. Right now, the lobster is prime to eat, because it's weeks before shedder season when lobsters molt, meaning soft shells and wimpy meat.

As far as fresh lobster goes, it's "reasonably" priced at $135 for eight rolls (plus $35 for mandatory next day shipping). However, I by no means mean to suggest that this is a deal. It's Dean & Deluca after all- but as always, you pay for quality.

But even if no decadent picnics are in your future, at least get on the Dean & Deluca mailing, because it's basically like Playboy for foodies.

I Want It...

This may be a bit "much" for some, but I grew up on monogrammed... EVERYTHING. From my gym shorts to my bath towels, sheets... basically I love it when I see it. You could say it's the prep in me. So, anyways, you could see why this monogrammed cutting board (which doubles as a service tray) just speaks to me (figuratively, of course). But I could just see myself lining that board with crackers and putting cheese in the center... or a lovely roast with flowers on the edge. Oh the possibilities are ENDLESS.
A perfect wedding, house warming or shower gift - if I must say so myself.

So Wrong...But So Right

Who thought of this? A bacon cheeseburger on a glazed donut? Kind of gross...yet kind of appealing. I mean, people eat waffles with ham and eggs, right? Kind of the same...

Kind Of Wish I Had Too Much Money to Spare

I'm imagining to use this at a garden party bridal shower... a starter salad tossed with the beautiful, delicate, organic, and delicious (they're supposedly slightly infused with a fruity flavour), pansies and violas. You can even adorn miniature cakes you're serving for the final course with the enchanting miniature roses. What a hostess you'll be!

What's Next??

Science has taken us to Mars and the Moon, plumbed the twilight depths of the ocean, and manipulated the very fibers of existence on the subatomic level, and now, minus giblets, put an entire chicken into a can... and now you can get it (not this brand) on Amazon, too, where the writeup says it's, "...ready for soups, stews and quick dinners...Great to have on-hand in your pantry for emergency dinners."

Hmmm, how might those instructions read...something like: Open can, plop contents on plate, cover with plastic wrap, cook in microwave on high for 60 seconds, remove plate and wrapper, sculpt contents into shape of chicken. Serves 3-5...

I Love It!

I have this secret obsession with cute desert places. From the very first time I passed "Pie" in Chicago, IL (bearing storefront "Epoch" because there is a cute little floral design downstairs), I knew I had to buy something... I just needed a reason. This weekend, I finally had one... a lovely house dinner invite.

I bought 3 mini pies (apple crumb, key lime and banana creme) and plated them. UNREAL. As delicious, as they are cute. Upon walking in, I realized they are a coffee store too with an outdoor seating area... making it an ideal location for dates too! I can't say enough about this place. You just have to check it out if you're in the area.

New Product Alert!!

I am hardly a big fans of pre-mixed drinks typically... but have you ever tried making Mojitos for more than a party of 3? Seriously. IMPOSSIBLE without killing your hand and crushing glasses needlessly (at least for me). Just in time for summer (and weddings), Bacardi's new "ready to serve" Classic Mojito. Take heed of the following however: crushed ice is essential as is fresh mint and lime for the sake of authenticity. A quarter of a lime and a sprig of mint per drink should do it.... and you're off to a great summer.

Toe Cocktail

This must be the equivalent of PETA showing clips of cute furry bunnies before being slaughtered in hopes that people will stop wearing fur for people who enjoy the occassional cocktail. Apparently, a bar in Canada serves up a sourtoe cocktail that contains something along the lines of a worm at the bottom of a tequila bottle—except that this something is a human toe. That’s right. A severed human toe, preserved in salt, black and shrivelled and topped with a fat yellow nail. Truly disgusting, but an "essential" part of the Sourtoe experience.

The “cocktail” consists of a shot of Yukon Jack whiskey topped off with the toe. Drink the whiskey down, and if the toe touches your lips you get a certificate naming you a member of the Sourtoe Cocktail Club. Over 65,000 people have conquered the challenge.

There’s a photo of the toe on the club’s website and here. This image may be out of date, however, as the Saloon has gone through several toes over the years as well. “Some are swallowed, one was chewed up and several were hijacked by military cadets from Ontario,” says bar manager Matt van Norstrand. “We keep an extra one in the freezer,” he adds, “for just such emergencies.”

The natural question for hard-core adventurers is (naturally), “Is there a Sourfoot?” “As far as we know there isn’t,” the bar’s website says. “[B]ut if you’re looking for a thrill try the Five Toe Sourtoe Cocktail; a drink exclusively for brave people with intestinal fortitude.” UGH.

World's Most Expensive Watermelon (Unofficially)

Watermelon is one of the signature fruits of summer, and although (considering today's economy) I'm willing to pay more for it than I used to I'm positive I would never pay upwards of $6,000 for a single melon! But at least one (CRAZY) man in Japan was as he bid on and won an auction for a 17lb Densuke black watermelon for a whopping $6,100. Despite the fact that the Densuke watermelon is considered a luxury in Japan and that this particular kind of melon only grows in one place (on the island of Hokkaido in northern Japan), this auction marks the highest selling price ever for a watermelon in Japan, and most likely the world.

However, little known fact, in Japan, where melons are a luxury item commonly given as gifts and this watermelon's hefty price tag follows another jaw-dropping auction last month, where a pair of Yubari cantaloupe melons sold for a record $23,500.

Ummm... Eating Here Is Either Crappy or the Shit

There really isn't much I can say about this blog, but to post the pictures. But, this new restaurant in Taiwan, "Modern Toilet" is hoping to cash in on the hopes that eating on the throne is the shit. Sorry, that corny joke was too easy. Anyways, from the pics, it looks like people sit on the toilets and eat food off covered sinks and bathtubs. What really GROSSES me out though, is that the food is served in mini-toilet bowls and drink travel potties. Of course, toilet paper is provided in the place of napkins.
Pictures no enough for you? How about this video?

I Dream of Cake

When I was in San Francisco about two weeks ago, I passed what I thought was just about the MOST decadent cake store I've ever seen. IT IS GORGEOUS. I finally had a chance to visit their website. It's insane. I'm posting some of their more "fun" cakes (alligator Hermes Birkin bag (the only one I'll ever be able to afford) and some cute Prada shoes)...but you have to take a gander at their Wedding Cakes. Simply lovely.

Powdered Peanut Butter: The Next Generation

I was just reading about this peanut flour that you can mix with water or yogurt to make a peanut butter paste that's 75% less fat. It can also be used for baking recipes. What next? It can end world hunger? Anyways, if you're prone to eating peanut butter straight out of the jar, and by the bucket full, you'll be less likely to do the same with this stuff. There's a reason why Fun Dip never really caught on.

Who Thought Of This Marketing Strategy?

A new kind of "ladies" vodka called Damskaya is being marketed to women in Russia, and according to Reuters, it's "designed to be sipped with salad after a workout in the gym." Damskaya was invented by Igor Volodin, who says, "Women need a drink of their own... In Moscow, there are pink taxis for ladies, there are light cigarettes," he said. "But there was no vodka, and we asked ourselves: 'Why?'" Not everyone is enamored with this new product, particularly Yuri Sorokin, a psychologist who runs a rehab clinic in Moscow. 60% of his alcoholic patients are women, and many are the wives of millionaires. Sorokin said to Reuters, "I believe that female alcoholism is a huge problem in Russia. I believe it is as huge and hidden as the underwater part of an iceberg."

Who doesn't like a refresing vodka after the gym? Wait...they ARE marketing geniuses!

WHHHAAAAAAAAAAATTT???? Lil' Jon Has His Own Wine? YEEEEEAHHHHHHH!!!!

Rapper Lil Jon is apparently joining the long list of celebrities with a wine/alcohol project. The Little Jonathan Winery is the new project froml Lil Jon. Given his "taste" in (gaudy) jewels and style these bottles look incredibly restrained. No word on pricing yet or where the wines are sourced but he's starting with a 2005 Merlot and a 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.

Is this necessary? Does having onehit catch phrase allow you to OWN a winery and bottle wine? If so, then I seriously need think of one. How about, "That's hot." Crap, that's taken.
