That's ONE Definition of "Art"

True or False: Artist Paul McCarthy's is currently displaying a public sculpture entitled “Santa with Butt Plug” at the Middelheim Sculpture Museum in Antwerp, Belgium. Unbelievably - TRUE! http://www.artinfo.com/news/story/29546/santas-little-helper/

However, you don't have to travel all the way to Belgium to get a little piece of this sex toy-holding Santa, he'll be available as a MILK CHOCOLATE MOLD, I'm not kidding, at McCartney's Peter Paul Chocolates. At $100 a piece, make sure you get this gift for someone "special"... wow, what a DEAL considering the economic situation we're in now!

Snail Art Will Probably Be Slow To Pick Up (Get It?)

When I first saw this, I thought that these snails were photoshopped.... but no. They're real. Street artist Slinkachu (not to be confused with the Pokemon Pikachu, his cousin) uses nontoxic paint to decorate the shells of wild snails, "pimping their rides." The London based street artist frees the snails after painting them and calls the project “Inner City Snail – a slow-moving street art project”.
In all seriousness, some of his stuff is pretty cool... check out the "stuff for sale" section.

Cute Art

Rihanna bought $35,000 worth of art from Todd Goldman as a birthday present to herself.
The Umbrella diva is sending half to her New York apartment and keeping the other half in her Los Angeles home. She bought several paintings. They are:
"Fat kids are harder to kidnap"; "Goodbye kitty in a microwave"; "Gold digger like a hooker just smarter";"My mom says not to run scissors"; "Barbie is a slut"; "A salt with a deadly weapon" and "Smurf blue balls".
I LOOOVE cute art.

Playboy's First Cartoon Up For Auction

I think if I had some huge ass house, with perhaps a boudoir or a beautiful random study... I would purchase this in a heartbeat. The painting just evokes a certain sense of nostalgia and a touch of sex- yet class. Anyways, the first illustration from the house of Playboy drawn by Ben Denison will be auctioned off by Heritage Auctions in Dallas, Texas on December 12 and is estimated to sell for $12-18,000.

This SHIT Never Happens To Me

I'm going to start shopping around in old junkyards and flea markets - all these people with random paintings and art worth thousands or MILLIONS just laying around in their walls or couches. Come on! Happen to me!

Anyways, a Berlin student who bought a second-hand sofa bed at a flea market recently learned she had been sitting on a small fortune when she found a baroque painting hidden inside the couch. The artwork fetched $27,660 after the student discovered it stashed between the folding sections of the couch she had paid 300 bones for last year.

Experts believe the work, titled "Preparations for the flight to Egypt," was painted between 1605 and 1610 by an unknown artist with ties to Venetian painter Carlo Saraceni.

Lindsay Lohan Costume for Kids

There is actually a lot more to this story than the costume... it's actually an art piece by Trevor Chowning... but didn't wind up showing. Maybe that's why it's made even bigger headlines. Have to admit... pretty funny. The crack vial, the bags of coke... even the rolled up dollar bill. Chowning thought of everything.

Nude Models Take Over Miami

Of course, it was all in the name of art. I'm starting to wonder if we know anyone who did it...
Hundreds of South Floridians got maximum exposure on Monday, posing as nude models for photographer Spencer Tunick. Tunick, a sometimes controversial artist who has draped naked bodies in front of the United Nations and on glaciers, chose the Sagamore Hotel as the backdrop for his photograph, which he says is a commentary on excess. "Obviously, it's about the party, about having excess in leisure and about having escapism and fantasy," Tunick said of the tropical party scene known for its lavish bashes and exotic night life. The photo will be displayed in the hotel's contemporary art collection.
