Snoop Goes Country

Somehow, Snoop Dogg repertoire gets weirder with age and this new country-inspired ode to Johnny Cash is seriously makes me believe that the drugs are getting to him. Not only does he two-step, Willie Nelson makes a cameo.

Mascara On The Move

I've never understood vibrating toothbrushes and wonder who these people are that won't do the up-and-down brush motion with their hands, and need an appliance to actually do the brushing movement for them.

So when I read about Estee Lauder's new "TurboLash All Effects Motions Mascara", a battery-operated, vibrating mascara- naturally, the same questions popped into my head. WHY DOES IT NEED TO VIBRATE? Can't you just sweep on mascara by yourself? Estee Lauder claims that there's a "relationship between vibration, length, volume, separation and curl."

UGH...unfortunately, as unlikely and unnecessary as this all sounds , I know that once it comes out, I'll buy it. People will buy it...it's $30 bones - 7 more than what I'm used to paying with Dior Show...

A Much Needed Makeover...

I don't know about you, but I've been wasting more time on Facebook than ever lately. But admittedly, I am a MySpace convert. I don't think I'm a unique case though... The web designers at Fox Interactive are taking their stab at making MySpace look more like Facebook now. It’s not an earth shattering change, but, for the ugliest social networking site of all time, its a welcome one. It should launch sometime next week....

Topshop to Finally Hit the US

I've admired Topshop’s trendy and reasonably priced styles for a long time (and from afar)— especially the Kate Moss collections — but other than ordering it off of their British website and waiting for it to ship to the U.S. - no access. But that’s changing this fall! In October, Topshop is opening their first store in New York City and launching their U.S. website in September with most items set to be under $100. YES! Now only if they can get a H&M to open in Florida...

Super Mario Cake

This is UNREAL. This is a cake!! Check out the detail....

Child Bride Tax

In an effort to combat the functional equivalent of human trafficking, Egypt now has a law that prohibits men from marrying women more than 25 years their junior. While one might argue that a 25-year-old woman marrying a 50-year-old-man could pose some problems (but often doesn't), it doesn't seem to me that it ought to be outright illegal, but that's not really the point of the law. The problem in Egypt is that some of their wealthier Gulf neighbors have a habit of coming to Egypt to marry extremely young women, as was the recent case in which a 17-year-old found herself married to a 92-year-old man, presumably for a hefty dowry of some sort.

The Ministry of Justice has refused to endorse the marriage, which will make it impossible for the man to leave the country with his bride. However, there is of course a loophole. If the husband deposits a "large sum" of money into an account at the Egyptian National Bank in his wife's name, the Ministry can approve the marriage. Last year, 173 men deposited an average of $8,000 USD and subjected themselves to some unspecific screening in order to marry their much-younger wives. Eight Thousand Dollars is the LARGE SUM?!?! Some people spend more than that at Solid Gold in an hour. IS THAT A JOKE?

I mean, Egypt sounded kind of cool there for a second, right? Like all, "we don't countenance child brides or women being sold of like such chattel," which sounded great right until I got to the part where it's cool as long as you pay the government in addition to the family.

Are Those Boots Necessary?

The weather in LA is blazing hot right now... Mischa Barton is making another fashion faux pas with these massive fringe boots, but then again, she probably gets paid to wear those things.
